Cheerios versus Nutri-Grain. The eternal question.
I’ve often stood in the cereal isle of the local supermarket and thought, “Coco pops or froot loops”. I don’t really mind which but I just can’t choose.
Enter Woolworths unit pricing. It’s great! Just look at the bottom of the ticket and you’ll see how much you’re going to pay for 100g of the cereal. It’s a bit like a petrol station. Dollars per litre.
So there I was. Nutri-Grain or Cheerios. Cheerios or Nutri-Grain. $/100g. Cheerios wins.
Done.
Coles supermarkets could learn a thing or two from Woolworths/Safeway. Unit pricing is the first. The other is their fuel discount offers.
Woolworths: scan a card at the checkout and the discount is stored electronically. You just redeem it at the service station by swiping your card.
Coles: they’re still using the old bottom of the docket style. I can’t see why they couldn’t have been a market leader years ago. Anyone heard of the Flybuys card?
No wonder Coles is losing market share.
Anyhoo, score one for Cheerios and one for Woolworths. Back to the diet tomorrow. Tune in soon.
